To paraphrase Capcom's advertising campaign, Okami is the best game that you're likely to have never played. Developed by Ready At Dawn, the newest version of Okami features IR input for the celestial brush, gesture-based combat, and a much-deserved second wind for one of the best games of last generation. Not many people ever got around to experiencing Amaterasu's epic journey to defeat Orochi, but Capcom has brought the title back for another go-round on Wii. Released just a short time before the news of Clover's shuttering, Okami was a perfect culmination of the style, ambition, and execution that the studio brought to every one of their games. Designed by Hideki Kamiya, the precociously imaginative mind behind Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, and Viewtiful Joe, Okami was a magical reinvention of the action adventure game featuring an entirely new interface (the celestial brush) and a ravishing sumi-e art style. Overall, I am leaning toward to Wii version, mostly because of the faster drawing capabilities, looking outside of that very important control mechanic, there are some +:es and -:es on both sides. But I don't feel Ready at Dawn mapped the controls in the best way possible in the Wii version, although they could blaim Nintendo for very akward face buttons. I feel the control got tighter with the Wii version, and I am playing with a much greater flow, because of the speed gained with it. The Ps2 version though, looks quite bland even though the artstyle fits better. Okami on Wii looks sharper and has more vibrant color, but it doesn't nail the Sumi-e graphics filter at all, and the wiimote waggle is not used in a meaningful way at all (and the nunchuku-dodging is terrible). I am quite torn as to which version is the best. I have played about 10hours of both the Ps2 and the Wii version of Okami.
